About FP Photos

FP Photos strives to provide the best experience when purchasing unique photographic prints, from a range of talented photographers.

FP Photos is the dedicated sales website of Focal Point Gallery in North Geelong, Victoria, Australia. This is not a stock library, but some images may be available as digital files depending on the intended use. Please contact us with any enquiries.

The photos listed are all available as prints. Some are one-off prints, only available in a specific size and presentation – many are mounted on archival board or foamcore, while some are framed. Many of the prints have been in storage for a number of years and may have some minor marks or damage. Please check the description carefully before ordering, as refunds on these prints are not available. Some of the photos may be printed to order, either as hand-printed analogue prints from the darkroom or as digital prints, so again please check the description.

You are welcome to view any of the prints at our gallery prior to purchase. Please contact us a few days beforehand, so we can retrieve them from storage for your inspection.

All new digital prints are produced on Ilford Galerie archival paper, using archival inks and may be available in a variety of surfaces and paper weights and types. Simply contact us for details.

Prices vary depending on the desirability and rarity of the photo, the photographer, the size, presentation and condition of the print, and whether or not it is signed by the photographer.

The listed prices all include GST, and are all without postage/freight or insurance. We recommend purchases of mounted or framed prints be collected from the gallery in person. While we can send them via courier, this will be at the buyer’s expense and will need to include insurance (usually calculated at around 6% of the purchase price). Please discuss this with us prior to purchase, if required. All unmounted prints can be posted. Unmounted prints valued up to $500 can be posted within Australia for a flat postage fee of $25. For unmounted prints valued at more than $500 or for postage overseas, please contact us to discuss your requirements and costs before ordering.

Click on any of the below photos to learn about that photographer or collection of photos. Or use the above menu to start browsing available photos now.

If you would like to learn about, or purchase photos from, our current exhibition, please use the drop-down menus in the above About or Store tabs.

Focal Point is very interested in representing other photographers. If you would like to know more or would like to have your photographic archive represented by us, please contact us today.

Print Type

• Archival: A print that should not fade or discolour over a period of 100 years under normal conditions.

• Silver Gelatin Print: A traditional darkroom print, created by exposing the print paper to light through a negative or transparency.

There are two main types, being:

Fibre Based (FB) – an archival print with the photographic emulsion applied directly to the paper base.

Resin Coated (RC) – the paper is coated with plastic and the emulsion applied to the plastic coating.

RC prints are long-lasting, but are not considered archival.

• Cibachrome / Ilfochrome: An archival colour print made directly from an original colour transparency. This process is no longer available.

• C-type print: An archival colour or black-and-white print made from a digital file (either from an original digital file or from a scan from a

negative or transparency), and the print is processed with chemicals. Common paper types are Kodak Endura and Ilford Ilfotech.

Many of the mounted colour c-type prints we have for sale are high-gloss Ilford Ilfoflex, while B&W C-type prints are Ilford True B&W.

• Digital print: A print made with an inkjet or pigment printer. Focal Point Gallery uses only archival inks and Ilford Galerie archival papers.

Presentation

• Artmount: Also known as Artboard, Gaterboard or Kapaboard.  An archival, or “museum-grade”, acid-free foamcore board, with the print mounted directly to the surface of the board. Artmount generally comes in 5mm, 10mm and 20mm thicknesses with an archival cardboard backing.

• Dibond / Dinabond: A 3mm to 5mm thick archival, acid-free board with the front surface made of thin aluminium.

• Matted only: Prints that have been attached to archival cardboard with acid-free tape, but not framed.

• Framed: Prints that have been professionally matted and framed.

Verso means the back, or reverse, side of a print, matte or frame.
