In the 1970s rock singer Linda Ronstadt was the highest-paid and most successful female American artist of her time. By the time this photo was taken, at a press conference in Melbourne in April 1984, her musical style had mellowed considerably, appearing on Broadway and experimenting with operetta and country music.
